Announcing The Young Writers Short Story Contest 2025

The Bullitt County Authors invites middle and high schoolers to submit their short stories for the young writer's short story contest!

  1. Accepted Genres: Fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, mystery, etc

  2. Not Accepted: Graphic violence, nudity, porn, or any NSFW material

  3. Word limit: 5,500 words

  4. One entry (story) per contestant. Submission is free. The contest runs Feb 3rd – June 5th, 2025. Winners will be announced June 30th, 2025

  5. Last year’s first place high school winner is ineligible to submit this year

  6. However, if you were a middle-school winner last year and have since moved on to high school, you are eligible to submit as you qualify for a new group

  7. Last year's runner ups can re-submit. Please submit a new story for this year.

One overall winner will be selected from each group (middle and high school). The winners will have their story published, courtesy of Twin Sisters Press, and will get to be an author for a day at the Bullitt County Authors Fair where they can autograph/sell copies of their books. Ten runner ups from each group will have their stories published in an anthology.

All three had their stories published courtesy of Twin Sisters Press. Annabelle and Maddox got to be an author for a day at the Bullitt County Authors Fair, where they sold/autographed copies of their books.
